The NexStar 5 is sturdy and solid. All load bearing components like the fork arm and drive base are made of aluminum for rigid low vibration performance. Once you've set up and selected an object, the NexStar quietly slews to the object, centers it and tracks it perfectly! The high precision servo motors provide long operational life, quiet and accurate pointing. You can easily appreciate the quality that Celestron has incorporated into the NexStar 5.

The NexStar's hand control has a built-in RS-232 communications port so I can control the telescope right from my PC.

The telescope can be powered by the standard AC adapter or eight user-supplied AA batteries.

THE HAND CONTROLLER
The hand control can be mounted on the fork arm for hands-free operation, or held in your hand. The buttons are back illuminated with red LED’s that help retain your night vision. The hand control is easy to use. At the touch of a button you can select a catalog, change the slew (motion) rate, get information on an object, or simply tell if an object is visible.
All at the touch of a button.

As a novice stargazer, what if you want to do some really serious deep sky exploring?

The NexStar's database contains over 18,000 objects including all of the popular catalogs the RNGC, the SAO, the Caldwell, and the Messier catalog. This may sound a little bit intimidating, so the NexStar also breaks down the catalogs into shorter, easier to understand lists. It picks the best objects and categorizes them.
